Subject: Invitation to Participate in the Next ACRYRED Interlaboratory Ring Test on Acrylamide in Low-Level Matrix
Dear colleagues and members of the COST Action CA21149 ACRYRED,
Following the successful completion of the first ACRYRED interlaboratory comparison in 2025, we are pleased to announce the second round of the ring test, which will focus on a low-acrylamide cereal matrix. This upcoming comparison aims to further support harmonization of analytical approaches, evaluate laboratory performance at low concentration levels, and strengthen collaboration within the ACRYRED network.
Test Material
The selected matrices for this round will be:
- SK-2026-1: Puffed rice snacks with expected low acrylamide content (non-flavoured);
- SK-2026-2: Extruded corn snacks with expected low acrylamide content (non-flavoured).
This materials were selected based on discussions within the working group and the need to verify analytical reliability at concentrations close to regulatory benchmark levels.
Sample Distribution
Samples will be distributed as follows:
- In person: during the Training School in Plovdiv,
- By post: for members who did not attend the event.
Each participant will receive a sealed sample with instructions for storage and handling.
Storage Conditions
Samples must be stored at the ambient temperature (18 – 22°C).
Timeline
Participants will be asked to perform the analysis within a fixed testing period:
18 May 2026 – 29 May 2026
Reporting templates will be provided together with the sample.
Reporting
Laboratories will be requested to provide:
- Analytical results expressed in µg/kg (whole numbers),
- Information on the analytical method used (including LOD, LOQ, internal standard, reference materials, accreditation/validation status),
- Any relevant comments concerning uncertainties or method performance.
Participation
We warmly invite all members of the ACRYRED network—both research and accredited laboratories—to take part in this activity. Your involvement is essential to improving the reliability of low-level acrylamide determination and strengthening the scientific basis for consumer safety.
If you wish to participate, please confirm your interest by replying to the contact emails. Should you require postal delivery, kindly include your full mailing address.
